Securing Cars on a Trailer: Strap Placement & Safety Tips
Transporting vehicles requires precision, the right equipment, and a good understanding of how to strap down the load safely. At Central Florida Trailer Rentals, we provide trailers with multiple tie-down points to help you protect your cargo. Here’s a full guide on properly securing cars to trailers using our straps, ETrack, and rings.
Step 1: Choose the Right Trailer
Use an enclosed or open car hauler with: - E-Track system (floor and wall) - Triangle and rounded tie-down rings - D-rings embedded in the deck
Step 2: Load the Vehicle Correctly
Center the vehicle front to back
Maintain a 60/40 weight balance (60% forward)
Leave at least 6–12 inches between bumpers and trailer ends
Step 3: Use the Right Straps
Recommended Equipment: - 4 E-Track ratchet straps - 2 wheel straps (optional for extra security) - Soft loops (for around control arms or wheels)
Step 4: Secure All Four Corners
Attach straps to solid suspension or frame points — not plastic bumpers or axles
Cross the straps in an “X” pattern where possible for better lateral stability
Use floor E-Track or D-rings, not fenders or ramps

Step 5: Tension and Test
Ratchet each strap tightly, without crushing the suspension
Bounce the trailer slightly to test for slack or movement
Re-check after driving the first few miles
Avoid These Common Mistakes
Using only 2 straps — always use 4
Securing to moving parts or exhaust pipes
Wrapping straps over tires without wheel nets
Forgetting to test straps after loading
